Stage 2 Understand about Blogs

Today your job is to explain what you know about blogging and being safe on the internet using a different webtool.

WALT: understand the importance of being safe online

You can find the webtools on the sidebar.

TIB – The internet can be an unsafe place. We need to know how to be sensible and use it safely.

WILF:

  • navigate the blog
  • read blogging guidelines on at least 2 different blogs
  • select a webtool and explore it
  • create a presentation which explains  Blogging Guidelines to others.

Completed products will be published on the blog!

What do we do when we read?

Welcome to your first Basic Skills lesson!

WALT: use and explain different comprehension strategies

TIB: Good readers use a range of comprehension and reading strategies in order to comprehend different texts. Our brain works automatically to use multiple strategies at once. This helps us to have a deep understanding of texts we read.

– What do you do when you read?

– What is your brain thinking about while you read?

– What are some of the strategies called?

Let’s find out if you are right……..

WILF:

* Watch video

* Choose a tool to present your information (Word, prezi, popplet, bubblus, padlet)

* Record at least 6 things you know about comprehension strategies

* Include headings, sentences and examples.

* Contribute to my shared padlet listing one thing you know about reading comprehension strategies. Make sure you record your name on the wall.

Online collaboration in 34P

This year 34P have been working really hard with their teachers to learn some essential life skills using technology:

* typing
* researching
* online security
* collaboration
* cooperation
* respect

Just to name a few.
We asked them to reflect on their learning with technology over the year as they collaborated on a Google Document with 28 other students online together. Check out what they came up with.

34P Collaborative Task

What a great year of learning with technology!!

technology

Today you are going to think about all the things you have learnt this year and how technology has helped you to be successful in your learning.

WALT – write a collaborative blog post

TIB – collaboration is a life skill

WILF –
* access Google Classroom
* use one row only!!
* write your name and at least 3 tools you have used this year
* say how you used the tool
* say how it has been useful for your learning

Enjoy!! Once everyone has finished we will make the collaborative post.

34P thoughts about Excel

34P students have been learning about Excel Spreadsheets.
excel

Here are some of their intial thoughts:

Ibby – I learnt that you can type at the top to where you want to go.

Jerome – 34P have learnt how to use coordinates on an excel spreadsheet.

Ahmed – we had lots of fun using Excel spredsheets. You can scroll down for a long time and it is like an infinite list.

Jana – I learnt how to solve a riddle with an excel spreadsheet. We learnt a new way to use spreadsheets by using the bar at the top to write a cell number.

Zach – I learnt that you can write at the top c3 and it goes there.

Ainsley – if you are writing in a cell and there are too many words, you can double click at the top of the cell.

Danny – I learnt how to solve a problem using the coordinates from excel. Also it was a very hard puzzle to solve but the activity was still fun!

Alan – I solved a puzzle on Microsoft Excel, today! It was really fun and I used a really smart shortcut!

Sarina – I learnt that the letters and numbers on excel is an axis. I would love to learn more about excel.

Nicole – On Microsoft Spreadsheets you could make the cells more narrow. I also learnt to make it easier you can write a letter and number and it will show it to you.

Muhedesa – I learnt that we can make our cells bigger or smaller depending on the size in excel spread sheet

What do you know about Excel? What else have you discovered? Why might people need to use Excel in their jobs?

Kindergarten Photography

This term Kindergarten have been learning how to take photos and edit them using iPad camera editing features. They took photographs of different learning environments around school and created a collage using a new app called Pic Collage.

WALT : create an online survey
TIB: The best surveys are shared with a wider audience
WILF:
* sign up to [wmd-buttons style=”web2″ button_color=”#3f11b2″ font_color=”#ffffff” size=”2″ border_radius=”4″ position=”center” target=”_self” ls-id=”5639315214066″][wmd-buttons-button label=”Survey Planet” link=”https://surveyplanet.com/”/][/wmd-buttons]
* select a theme and type your questions
* at least 3 closed questions
* at least 4 open questions
* work collaboratively
* create survey
* save survey
* share survey with others

When you work collaboratively you need to share the learning roles.
This is how you could organise your group
Person A – uses their email to sign up to survey planet and logs on to portal email using a computer
Person B – uses another computer to log in to word and retrieve or type up prepared questions
Person C – reads the questions and assists Person A and B

Doodle 4 Google Competition

In Term 2 some students expressed an interest in entering an art competition for Google Australia. The winner of the competition would have their design published on the Google Homepage for a short period of time.

This was an optional competition and students completed all work in their own time at home or during lunchtimes.
We had nine entries from Stage 3. All entries demonstrated a creative flair and talent to sketch and draw to suit a theme. I am extremely impressed with each and every entry. Each student took great care and time to detail their thoughts in an original artwork. Well Done to all of you!

Unfortunately, we did not have any finalists this year but I imagine the judging criteria was extremely difficult and I am pleased to notice that we did have comparable entries with the selected few. Even though we did not win a place this year I encourage you all to keep working hard and continue to enjoy expressing yourselves creatively.

Please take a moment to have a look at the artworks created by Guildford students and feel free to leave a comment.

Discovering something new in 34K

Today we are going to try again to access Google Classroom.

WALT: access Google classroom and complete a collaborative task

WILF:
* access the blog
* navigate blog links to your portal
* join the classroom using the class code on the board
In Google Classroom…
* access document
* Save as a new document
* complete tasks

TIB: Technology allows us to collaborate in an online forum and work simultaneously with teachers and other students. It is a great way to help each other.

For Fun: If you have completed this we would like you to create a Tagxedo, Popplet or Bubblus about things you have learnt this term. You will be able to save your work onto the collaboration drive using the snipping tool.

Bears

Bears are omnivores and they can eat anything. They give birth to live young. They don’t lay egg like some other animals.

There are many types of bear which include polar bear, brown bears grizzly bears and pandas. Australian koalas are not bears, but they are marsupials.

Bears are strong heavy mammals. They have small tails and small ears. They have thick coats and fur which they use to warm them in cold winter night. Bears have poor eyesight and hearing, but they have a very good sense of smell, that they use to smell their food. Some bears live in cold places and some live in tropical forest.

Information report on Bears

Joelle

Bears are aggressive mammals. Bears are strong heavy creatures. Their teeth are very hard so they can chew on the food that they eat. They have long sharp teeth called molars. Their thick brown fur keeps them warm from cold areas.

Bears have a good sense of smell that is used for hunting. They can smell almost anything anywhere. But they don’t have such good sense of sight. Their hearing sense isn’t good either. This makes it hard for the bear to hunt its prey.

Bears do not lay eggs. They are born alive. The baby stays with its mother for a few months. During those months they hibernate. This means they sleep till spring arrives. The reason they do this is because it is cold in winter, so they build a den and sleep in there to keep warm.

Bears are big in size. Polar bears grow up to about 280 centimetres. They also weigh 700 kilograms. Smaller bears grow up to 180 centimetres and weigh 180 kilograms. There are lots of bears, such as the Polar bear, Grizzly bears and Panda’s.

Bears are omnivores. They eat plants such as berries, fruits and many more. They also eat meat. They eat humans and fish. They eat a lot of meat so they can survive and grow.

They are famous for their brown and white coat. They get hunted down for their thick fur coat, and soon there turned into thick fur carpets or something else. Aboriginals also hunt down bears so they can eat it. Some people even set traps for bears!

There are not much bears in rain forests anymore because some bears get killed and hunted down. Animals known as marsupials are NOT bears at all. They are pouched animals. There are many pouched animals such as kangaroos, Wombats, koalas and many more. Bears don’t have pouches at all they use their backs to carry the little baby bears and sometimes their teeth.

Nadine’s writing about bears

Bears are a type of omnivore. They are very powerful mammals. They eat any animal they see. Carnivores eat lots of different animals.
There are many types of bears. Such as polar bears, Brown bears, Black bears and Grizzly bears. All of the bears are very dangerous.

Bears are strong heavy mammals that have small tails and ears. They also have crushing back teeth which are known as molars. They have an excellent sense of smell.
All bears have thick coats or fur. This keeps them warm in the cold climates.

34W What has stuck with you this term?

Good Morning 34W.

I am sure you have all had a busy term of learning.
Today you will need to use Tagxedo or Popplet to create a word cloud that demonstrates what you have learnt. The more sentences you write the more interesting your cloud will be.

Make sure you save them in the folder called ‘Term 3’ on the shared drive.

WALT: present information creatively

WILF:
* access the blog
* open a webtool using a blog link
* create a presentation
* save in the correct place
* publish to the blog

TIB: being reflective is an important part of your learning. There are many different ways people choose to present information.

56C Energy Drinks with a difference

Last Semester 56C worked collaboratively to create adverts for an original drink design with a twist. Instead of being ordinary energy drinks, these drinks would give you a range of super powers. Super speed, super strength, invisibility, teleportation, telekinesis and the ability to breathe underwater are just some of the ideas students have developed. If only this were possible……
Check out some of their movies and please leave a comment about their hard work. Mr Crowther and Miss Bryceland are very impressed with all efforts.
Well Done 56C!
